Short biography of Satyajit Ray


Satyajit Ray was born on 2nd May ,1921.His father Sukumar Ray  was  a famous Bengali poet and his mother was Suprava Ray.After the death of his father at a tender age,Satyajit left Garpar of Calcutta,the place where he was born,with his mother.From his very childhood he took great interest in art ,culture and literature.
In the year of 1936,he passed his school final from Ballygunj High School.In 1940,he graduated from Presidency College with Honours in Economics.
Satyajit Ray was a giant of Indian Cinema.He was an excellent filmmaker  and his films made a mark all over the world.But his popularity extended  beyond the fields of cinema.He was a very good story writer for the dhildren.He was also a story teller,a thinker,a critic and what not!He was also a versatile genius Pather Panchali firmly established Satyajit Ray as a world-class director and gave him total control over his subsequent films. Two sequels based on the novel (Aparajito, The Unvanquished, 1956; Apur Sansar, The World of Apu, 1959) completed the famous 'The Apu Trilogy'.

He was recognized as a National professor and awarded the Bharat Ratna,the highest award that India offers .Satyajit Ray went on to receive 32 National awards and numerous international awards which included Golden Lion and Silver Bear.He also won the Oscar Award for his life time achievement in Indian cinema.

Satyajit Ray died on April 23,1992.But he left his memories indelibly imprinted in our hearts.
