Short essay about Superstitions

There are many natural events which are said to be due to supernatural forces. This belief in supernatural forces is known as Superstition.

The dictionary definition of superstition is 'credulity regarding the supernatural, irrational fear of the unknown or mysterious, misdirected reverence'. It is not altogether satisfactory, because it fails to lay due emphasis on the disastrous results of superstitious beliefs and practice in the lives of a vast number of people throughout the world -- even today. Superstition can do nothing, but harm. It can destroy the lives of those over whom it gains a stronghold.

If we wear an iron bangle in our right hand, we will not feel afraid or scared (frightened). Even in our sleep we will enjoy peaceful dreams. There will be no disturbance. If a student eats curd or pudding while going to the examination centre, his paper will be easy and his success in the examination will be a sure shot. It is all an idea of a silly mind. No one can reason out. If we try to bring round to our scientific view, the people will give a hearty laugh making us an ass. We will have to cut a sorry figure. In our heart of hearts we know that we are cent-per-cent correct, but we lack the courage to stick to our guns.

Today we have learnt the scientific explanations for many natural events. But we are yet not free from the chains of superstitions.

Superstition is no more than eccentricity -- at worst, a dangerous threat to serene and untrammeled living. Most of it belongs to our dim ancestry, and as the human race evolves, so will superstition decrease, and, in the end, disappear.

Short paragraph on Pollution

The term ‘pollution’ has gained a wider significance in recent years. The water, air and noise pollution in one terminology is known as the pollution of the eco-system.
Pollution in India is a big environmental issue which everyone must aware of. Our kids and school going children usually get topic of pollution to write essay or recite speech on this. Parents should know about the types, causes and prevention measures of the pollution in order to help their kids and get aware of.

Pollution is the mixing of some harmful or poisonous materials into the natural resources available on the earth. Pollution can be of many types like noise pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution etc.
Air Pollution
Air pollution is increasing day by day because of the growing number of automobiles, release of poisonous gases, smoke from industrial companies, finely dissolved solids, liquid aerosols, etc in the atmosphere. The air we breathe every moment causes several lungs disorders.
Massive deforestation should be immediately stopped since it has altered the balance between Oxygen and Carbon dioxide. Industrial and vehicle law relating to air pollution should be properly implemented.
Water Pollution
Water Pollution refers to the contamination of water bodies such as water, sea, lakes, ocean, etc. It happens when pollutants are discharged into water without proper treatment. The organic sources of water pollution are food processing wastes, tree debris, etc. The inorganic sources are acidic industrial discharge, silt, etc.

Noise Pollution
Noise Pollution is the excessive sound that may cause harm to the mankind. The sources of indoor noise pollution are machines, television, music activities. The extreme sources of Noise pollution are industries, vehicles, trains, etc.
Noise control measures such as noise barriers, smooth road ways, etc can be introduced to reduce the pollution.
Noise pollution is affecting the listening system in the body as well as causing disturbance to the memory.
Conclusion
The principal cause behind this pollution is ‘exploitation of nature’. The environmental laws across the globe make an attempt to control pollution. But people are accustomed to break the law. We should behave responsible towards the environment as an attempt to control pollution.

Short Essay about the need for alternative sources of energy

It is hard to live without energy, but it is impossible to find another planet to live in. Energy is everything. It comes in many forms.
Alternative energy is any energy source that is an alternative to fossil fuel. These alternatives are intended to address concerns about such fossil fuels.

In a general sense, alternative energy as it is currently conceived, is that which is produced or recovered without the undesirable consequences inherent in fossil fuel use, particularly high carbon dioxide emissions, an important factor in global warming.

From environmental prospective solar power is the best alternative source of energy. It is the light and the heat from the sun which is harnessed to generate power. It is created by converting the sun rays into electricity using solar panels.

Wind power is one of the oldest forms of energy that benefited mankind so greatly. It is the use of the wind power to produce electricity.
Geothermal energy is one of the main sources of alternative energy. It is the heat of the earth, which is continuously produced in the core of the earth. It is very beneficial to the earth and it atmosphere as it doesn't produce any pollution. In this technology, Wells are drilled to pump heated water and steam.

- Energy is what makes the world go around. Without the continuous supply of energy that most of us take for granted, things would quickly come to a stop. We are dependent on energy for our very survival. Heating our homes, transportation, communication, health, even our daily food supply, this all depends on energy. But while energy delivers much that is good, it is also a primary factor, the primary factor.

This campaign was officially launched on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself cleaned the road. It is India's biggest ever cleanliness drive and 3 million government employees and school and college students of India participated in this event. The mission was started by Prime Minister Modi, who nominated nine famous personalities for the campaign, and they took up the challenge and nominated nine more people and so on (like the branching of a tree).
Modi said, "Today is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastriji. We have gained freedom under leadership of Gandhiji, but his dream of clean India is still unfulfilled."
He added, "Swachh Bharat Campaign logo is not just a logo, through it Gandhiji is watching us and we all should clean India.
Millions of people across the country are also joining daily the cleanliness initiatives of the government departments, NGOs and local community centers to make India completely clean by 2019.

The Centre will spend nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in a five-year span as part of its ambitious plan to completely clean India by October 2019, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. While the Urban Development Ministry will allocate Rs 62,000 crore for cleaning towns across the country, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation will spend Rs 1,34,000 crores for the programme to be launched by Modi on October 2.
The mission will cover all rural and urban areas. The urban component of the mission will be implemented by the Ministry of Urban Development, and the rural component by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

Modi asked people to take pictures of areas where they saw garbage, then clean the area and take pictures of the clean area. He asked people to upload these images on social media using MyGov, a mobile application. He also said  “Don’t trust my government, but trust Mahatma Gandhi’s devotion to cleanliness”.

Essay on Mobile Phone

The invention of mobiles phones is a great achievement and plays an important part in our daily life. Mobile phone is a revolutionary step in the field of tele-communication. . Its many aspects are beneficial but some are negative effects as well.

The mobile phone first appeared in India sometime in the nineties. It was a bulky box quite similar to the landlines we still use today. It had an equally big antenna and was heavy and cumbersome to carry. That was just the beginning.
Very soon they were all over the place. With the alarming speed at which they shrunk in size, these pocket sized wonders, sure packed a punch. Mobile phone has completely changed the concept of the telephoning. Now a phone is not only a mere phone but it is a lot in itself. It can be used as computer and a whole world in one's hand. As for the instant information, nature of a cellular phone it has an advantage in life controlled by the information that continues changing by a minute unit of advanced information oriented society.
Communication between people to people becomes so easier and very fast. By putting some precautionary measures in mind, we can get much more advantages from cell phone.
Firstly, when the battery of mobile is at end then don’t make a call, because at this stage the cell phone contain very destructive radiations which may cause severe problems to the brain. Secondly, do not use cell phones in study hour to avoid disturbance problems. Thirdly, when cell phone is on vibration mode, do not put it in front pocket .Because it may damage the heart beat system. Due to which it may cause severe heart attack.

One cannot deny the change in life with the change of time but when this change is over-exposed it is called pollution. We must balance these two phenomena in order to create a healthy world. With every technology, along with its uses come the misuses and it is the users responsibility to use technology with caution.

Short stories for kids

The Little Frog and the Big Buffalo
One day a Little Frog happens to see a buffalo on its way to the pond and is stopped by it.  The little frog got surprised.
What are you doing by jumping like this? Yelled the big buffalo at the little frog
This is how I walk responded the frog with a surprise
You have got four legs like any other animal and why can’t you just walk? Buffalo again yelled with the same anger.
Now the little frog understood the confusion the big buffalo had and it turned upside down and asked:
Look my dear big buffalo how my legs are made. I do have four legs but the hind ones are differently made hence I can’t walk and I can only jump to cover distances.
Oh   sorry – pleaded the big buffalo
I am really sorry for showing my anger at you without knowing the reason.  I shall be your friend from now on wards and I shall carry you now to wherever you want to go.  Please let me know where do you want to go – requested the buffalo
The little frog felt very happy with the sudden change in the behavior of the big buffalo.
I need to go to the pond near that banyan tree but I do not know how to climb on to your back – said the little frog
Do not worry I shall sit down so that with one leap you can jump on to my back – suggested the big buffalo
The frog did as suggested but the smooth skin of the buffalo made its efforts futile.  Both the big buffalo and the little frog were disappointed but continued their efforts.  At one point the frog could jump on to the back of the buffalo but as the big buffalo started standing up it had slipped down.  As their struggle continued they saw Dr.Dove coming towards them.
What’s the matter why are you here asked Dr.Dove by alighting on the branch of a neem tree near them.
I made a promise to carry this small frog on my back to the pond near that banyan tree but it has become difficult for this small frog to reach my back.
You want to carry the frog on your back. Isn't it? Asked Dr.Dove.
Yes told the buffalo
Then I have suggestion to you.  You both come along with me lead Dr.Dove towards the pond.  All three reached the pond.
Dear small frog you first jump into the water – said Dr.Dove
The small frog jumped into the water and looked up by turning back towards the buffalo and Dr.Dove.
Now dear Buffalo you walk into the water and sit down in such a way that your back is just touching the surface of the water level in the pond – said Dr.Dove.
The big buffalo did as suggested.
The little frog understood what is to be done. Immediately it jumped onto the back of the buffalo with ease and settled down there.
Soon the buffalo too understood and came slowly out of the water with the little frog on its back.  The little frog and the big buffalo were happy and thanked Dr.Dove.
Now tell me where shall I take you - asked the big buffalo
Not to the pond again but back to my home in the woods in the north pointed the little frog.
Seeing their happiness Dr.Dove flew away.
A Squirrel in a Winter Night
You are aware that during winter the trees shed leaves and make the birds and other small animals that live on them to face cold nights.
One cold night a squirrel found it difficult to bear the cold.  It was on a search for a place that can protect it from the cold.  It ran into the parasol of a hut that belongs to an old man who lives on the outskirts of the forest.
As soon as the squirrel started moving in the parasol of his hut the old man heard the sound of it, came out and found the squirrel shivering with cold.  He extended his hand and waved his fingers to come on to it.  The squirrel for a moment kept quite and it recalled what all it had seen this old man doing earlier.  It appeared from this recalling that this old man is a good one.  It slowly crawled onto the hand of the old man who caressed it with his another hand and took it in side.
It was very warmth inside the hurt and it made the squirrel stop shivering soon and fall asleep.  It slept for more than three hours and woke up with the sound of the cupboard door opened by the old man.  The old man noticed this and came near the squirrel with a hot cup of tomato soup.  He fed the squirrel with the spoon and emptied the cup.
The squirrel became active and found the holes in the roof of the hut.  The old man slept again.  As the day breaks out, the old man woke up and found searched for the squirrel in vain.  He thought that it had gone back to the forest.  He became busy with his daily chores.
As he was about to rest for a nap after the lunch, he heard a noise on the top of the roof.  He looked up and found that the holes on the roof are being filled with a lump of fiber.  He went out to find out who was at work and saw the squirrel seriously filling the holes one after the other first with the fiber and topping it with a big leaf meticulously.
The old man came inside and started doing something.  The squirrel on the top of the roof completed its job and entered the hut to find out if it missed any hole.  The old man thanked the squirrel and offered a cup of hot milk.  The squirrel drank it merrily.
The old man asked, ‘how did get the fiber and the leaves to fill all the holes at once?’
I came out in the morning when you were still sleeping, started collecting the fiber and leaves from the nearby creeper in small quantities and brought them to the rooftop.  Once I felt I had enough material to fill the holes I started doing the job that I know well.
Though you are a small animal you have a big mind to think and great strength to do the job.  I thank you for your kind help.  You can live with me, if you want – said the old man.
The squirrel agreed to it by waving its tail and the head in joy.
Indeed the holes were well filled and the rainfall that occurred a couple of days later made it further firm and there was no leakage in the hut.
They lived together for a long time in the same hut.
